This Love Exalted has been confirmed to be on the Heroic Benchmark Wiki to be a Heroic Benchmark. Although these characters have too much corrupting factors, have too much moral agency issues, are insufficiently characterized, are purely innocent, have standard heroism or heavily fail the in-story standards that prevent them from standing out to be at least Inconsistently Admirable, they are still noble and heroic enough in their own right. Do not remove Love Exalteds from this category unless they have been removed from the Heroic Benchmark Wiki. Failure to following these rules will result in a block. |
“ | I don't know how else to bring this up. But there's been something I've been worried about. Yuri has been acting kind of strange lately. You've only been here a few days, so you may not know what I mean. But she's not normally like this. She's always been quiet and polite and attentive...things like that.
I've always wanted to try being better friends with Yuri, and it really hurts me to see this happening. I know I'm going to hate myself later for admitting that, but right now I don't care. I just feel so helpless. So please see if you can do something to help. I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I'll make you cupcakes if I have to. Just please try to do something. As for Monika... I don't know why, but she's been really dismissive about this. It's like she just wants us to ignore it. So I'm mad at her right now, and that's why I'm coming to you about this. DON'T LET HER KNOW I WROTE THIS!!!! Just pretend like I gave you a really good poem, okay? I'm counting on you. Thanks for reading. |

~ Natsuki's final poem to the protagonist. |
“ | Look...Yuri. You really are the most talented here. And...And you're going to help to make the event a lot more fun and welcoming. I mean the cupcakes will probably help a lot too...But you're gonna make the atmosphere special. That'll be really important for the way that people feel during the performances. So... you need to stop being dumb and give yourself a little more credit! | „ |
~ Natsuki to Yuri |
Natsuki Muramoto, best shortened to Natsuki, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Yuri) of the visual novel, Doki Doki Literature Club!. She is Yuri's best friend and former rival. She is one of the two tritagonists in the game's Act 1 and Act 4, and the deuteragonist in Act 2. Natsuki is also one of the three characters for whom the player can write poems, as well as one of the five members of the Literature Club.
Natsuki introduced to play off the trope of small-but-feisty tsundere girl, as discussed by Monika in Act 3. Natsuki lives in a tragic and phlegmatic household with a strict and magnanimous father and a deceased mother, whose death results in her father's post-traumatic stress disorder and becoming an alcoholic, as well as becoming sexually and emotionally abusive at occasions, before becoming physically abusive in Act 2. Her father finds manga childish, so Natsuki joined the literature club to store her manga collection in order to evade her father's wrath.
What Makes Her Love Exalted?[]
- Although Natsuki is the embodiment of a tsundere with serious anger issues, Natsuki possesses a softer, more considerate and gracious interior upon insecurity.
- Even when she has obvious issues with her anger, she is not entertained with fighting nor arguing with people, like Yuri.
- Natsuki's factors of possessiveness and assertiveness are due to her implied abusive and heavily strict father. However, that does not mean Natsuki despises her father, as the death of Natsuki's mother results in her father's post-traumatic stress disorder and becoming an alcoholic, as well as becoming sexually and emotionally abusive at occasions, before becoming physically abusive in Act 2, the latter of which is due to Monika's manipulations. Thus, Natsuki's abrasive nature is a coping mechanism. Additionally, while Natsuki's father even became neglectful of her daughter, not even offering her lunch money nor feeding her either most of the time (thus resulting in Natsuki's undernourishment), Natsuki still does not show much grudge against him because of that.
- In DDLC! Plus, Natsuki is the reason Monika has started playing the piano in the first place, as said by the latter herself, making Natsuki virtually resourceful of the Literature Club, like Sayori.
- Natsuki is shown to have corruption rejection in Act 2, as Monika and Yuri become more obsessive while Natsuki, although more possessive, is even more kindhearted and is the only one without mental illness, making her the most resistant to Monika's manipulations.
- Natsuki shows high loyalty and care for her friends. In particular, she worries about Yuri over the course of the Literature Club, and, on one occasion, she gives the protagonist a note asking him to help Yuri, fearing the consequences upon interfering with her while simultaneously recognizing that there is something wrong with her.
- Natsuki and Yuri plan to head to the bookstore together in Act 4.
- Natsuki motivates Yuri by praising her for being the most talented member of the Literature Club and reassuring her that she is not useless during the festival planning, in a method to cheer Yuri up.
- She even shows empathy for Sayori's depression, even though she was possessive about the relationship between her and the protagonist at first.
- Natsuki is even hyperaware of Monika's influence within the Literature Club, especially in Act 2.
- Another circumstantial point includes Natsuki witnessing Yuri's decaying corpse in horror at the end of Act 2 after the latter commits suicide after the protagonist accepts/rejects her confession. This implies that not only does Natsuki truly care about her, but this also means that she is especially horrified and heartbroken that she lost her best friend so suddenly, something that she did not expect (although she did tease her about cutting herself, she never expected her to actually stab herself with a knife).
- Even after Yuri told Natsuki to "look for some coins under the vending machines" and bullied her on numerous occasions in Act 2, Natsuki still forgave her due to Monika's interference with such events.
