Miguel Rivera is the main protagonist of Pixar's 19th full-length animated feature film Coco.
He is an aspiring musician who defies against his living family's generational ban on music, which is rooted by the fact that his great-great grandfather left his family to pursue music. Not giving up on his goals, he later attempts to find this great-great grandfather of his for the sake of connecting with his ancestor for their shared love for music, only with the twist of directly meeting said ancestor in the Land of the Dead.
In English, he was voiced by Anthony Gonzales. In Spanish, he was voiced by Luis Angel Gomez Jaramillo.
What Makes Him Love Exalted?[]
- He never hated music like his family did.
- He apologized for taking Imelda’s photo off the ofrenda.
- He agreed to place Héctor’s photo on an ofrenda in exchange for leading him to Ernesto.
- He was sad about Chicharrón's departure due to being forgotten despite having just met him.
- At De la Cruz's mansion, he congratulated the winners of the contest and asked for their help, showing no resentment for losing.
- When joining Hector in the sinkhole, he tearfully confessed the wrongdoings he had committed earlier, expressing deep remorse for them.
- After being rescued by Imelda, Miguel explained what truly happened all those years ago and pleaded that Hector would be remembered by the rest of his family, even if it meant sacrificing his dream of being a musician forever.
- When Ernesto tried to murder him and keep him in the land of the dead to cover up his crimes, he rightfully called him out as a fraud for murdering Hector to steal his songs and become famous, also rightfully calling Hector the true musician.
- When realizing Hector was dangerously close to being forgotten completely, he refused to leave the Land of the Dead even after noticing that the sun was rising and knowing he would be stuck there forever.
- After returning to the Land of the Living, he raced to Mama Coco and tried to remind her of Hector, knowing that he was in danger of being forgotten forever. Even after the rest of his family tried to stop him, he still sang "Remember Me" with Hector's guitar, which ultimately caused Coco to remember her father, saving Héctor from being forgotten.
