Felonious Gru Sr., mostly known by his surname Gru, is the main protagonist of Illumination's Despicable Me franchise.

He is voiced by Steve Carell.

What Makes Him Love Exalted?[]

Despite being held captive by Wild Knuckles and his goons, he held no grudge against his idol and connected with him.
When Knuckles was devastated to see that his traitorous former friends ruined his house, Gru consoles him and tries to convince him to team up and stop the Vicious Six.
When he was a villain, he had a strong friendship with Dr. Nefario and his minions.
While he only adopted Margo, Edith, and Agnes for a scheme to steal back the shrink ray, he grew to care for the girls.
After shrinking the moon, he used his rocket in desperation to attend the girls' ballet presentation, trying to fix his mistakes of prioritizing his villainous schemes over them.
He surrenders the Moon and his lifelong dream of becoming “the greatest villain of all time” to Vector to save Margo, Edith, and Agnes. He did this even though Vector would not keep his end of the bargain.
He risked his life to save Margo.
He accepts and respects Dr. Nefarious decision to resign.
When offered by El Macho and Dr. Nefario to join them in their plan to launch and army of Purple Minions and rule the world, Gru says he’s in, when he actually intends to stop them, showing he has fully renounced his life of villainy.
He convinces his long-lost twin brother not to be a villain and to become a hero instead.
He loves his son Gru Jr. and tries to bond with him.
He assures the girls that everything will be ok in Mayflower.
He chases after and fights Maxime Le Mal to save Gru Jr.
