William "Bill" Overbeck is one of the four playable Survivors in Left 4 Dead. He is a Vietnam veteran who served in the US Army 1st Special Forces Group, Bill is the oldest of the group, in his late sixties. Often seen wielding an M16 and smoking a lit cigarette, he brings a tough, seasoned persona to the team. Bill dies before the events of Left 4 Dead 2's "The Passing" during the canonical events of The Sacrifice. He heroically sacrifices himself by facing multiple Tanks to raise the bridge, ensuring his team's survival from an oncoming horde.
