Beverley Bass, based on the real person of the same name, is main protagonist in the award winning musical, Come From Away, which is based on the real life experiences of the people of Gander Newfoundland after the US airspace was closed on 9/11, and about 7000 passengers were stranded there. She was the first female pilot for American Airlines.
She was originally played by Jenn Colella.
What Makes Her Love Exalted?[]
- She is an advocate for gender equality and made history by becoming the first female pilot for American Airlines after dreaming about it and working towards it her whole life.
- She has zero tolerance for discrimination. When Muslim passenger, Ali, is brought aside for a humiliating strip search, Beverley is forced to monitor in the same room. Beverley, disgusted by the fact he was forced to endure that for no justifiable reason, she pulls Ali aside after and personally apologizes to him.
- As soon as the plane is grounded in Gander, she tries everything in her power to contact her husband and kids. Even after her husband informs her of her great friend Charles Burlingame’s death in the attacks she tries her best to keep steady to calm him , repeatedly saying “No, I’m fine Tom. I’m fine.”
- She tries her best to get the airplanes and people back to there respective homes.
- She shows immense respect towards all who lost there lives in the attacks; putting the president’s speech on over the intercom and showing her love for who dear friend Charles Burlingame, who was lost in the attacks.
- On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, she returns to Gander with her whole family as a thank you to all the people who welcomed 7000 strangers into their doors and hearts.
